Hypochlorous Acid Shelf-Stability Testing
Hypochlorous acid is known to have excellent decontamination characteristics when applied to bacteria and spores. A known issue of hypochlorous acid (HOCl) is that the shelf life can be limited as a result of numerous environmental factors including light, heat, and the initial concentration. 4D was tasked with assessing the shelf life characteristics of numerous commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) HOCl solutions and evaluating HOCl production methods that would allow for the field-production of HOCl. The extended shelf-life tests showed the performance differences between selected COTS products and also highlighted technology shortcomings.
